Around the table

Felipe Arce 5tet

"Felipe has a very distinctive voice as a composer.
The music leaves a lot of space for everyone to bring something personal to it."

“There’s a strong sense of community in this record.
The music feels open, spontaneous, and deeply connected.”

Around the Table is the second album as a bandleader by Argentine bassist and composer Felipe Arce, bringing together George Garzone, Alexandra Ridout, Leo Genovese, and Francisco Mela in a dynamic quintet shaped by openness, interaction, and a strong sense of community.

Built around Arce’s original compositions, the album explores the meeting point between contemporary New York jazz and his Argentine and broader Latin American roots.

Inspired by the idea of gathering around a shared table, the music brings together different voices, backgrounds, and perspectives, creating a space where each musician can contribute their own identity while remaining deeply connected to the collective sound.

As George Garzone describes it: “Felipe has a very distinctive voice as a composer. The music leaves a lot of space for everyone to bring something personal to it.”

With Garzone’s expressive tenor, Ridout’s distinctive trumpet voice, Genovese’s expansive piano playing, and Mela’s deeply interactive drumming, the album embraces spontaneity and collective improvisation while remaining grounded in Arce’s compositional language. Leo Genovese adds: “There’s a strong sense of community in this record. The music feels open, spontaneous, and deeply connected.”

Around the Table is ultimately a record about connection — between musicians, cultures, and musical traditions — and about the creative possibilities that emerge when everyone has a place at the table.
